Dresses

Serena James Wiley, dress designer for The Wedding Belles, here to say hello. It's been awhile since I stopped by. My husband, Kane, and I have been traveling lately. He just loves to fly around in his plane, but we're back in Boston for a bit. It's great to see everyone at The Wedding Belles. I've missed them so.

I wanted to see if any of you watched the Oscars last night? If so, did you notice all the white gowns? Several of the designs looked as if they belonged walking down the aisle not just the red carpet. You can see pictures of some here. I can only imagine brides wanting to copy several of those designs. What do you think?

In case you're wondering what brides this spring and summer might be wearing, check out this clip:

Well, Kane's calling me so I'd better run. Take care!

The Wedding Dress Test

Serena, here, popping in to say hello! So much has changed since I last paid a visit. But I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might be new to The Wedding Planners so I'll just say I'm so happy I don't think a frown has touched my lips in months!

I ran across this little quiz and thought some of you might enjoy it, no matter what your marital status or desires. I took it and wasn't surprised by the answer! What about you?

Always a Bridesmaid!

Have you ever felt like the perpetual bridesmaid? Granted, I don't have 27 Dresses hanging in my closet, but I've got quite a few bridesmaid gowns in there that will never see the light of day again. Not that I mind being asked by my friends to be part of their wedding party. It's quite a thrill actually, but after awhile you really just want to be a bride. At least, I do.

At Callie's wedding, I want to catch the bouquet. Okay, I know the whole thing about catching the bouquet is just a silly tradition, but did you know Melissa McClone caught a bride's bouquet and was the next to get married?

Why not me?

I already know Natalie and Audra won't want to touch the bouquet. They are so down on men right now. And we couldn't drag Belle out there if our lives depended on it. So that leaves me and well, all the other female wedding guests. Of course, I still need a Mr. Right to propose, but catching the bouquet couldn't make things worse than they already are.

Want to help me out because I need to start packing for my flight to Seattle where I'm attending a bridal show and don't have time to google it right now? Do you have any strategies on how I can increase my odds of catching Callie's bouquet?

Are you ready to be a wife?

Serena here again! I decided to take this quiz to see if I am ready to be a wife.

You Are Ready to Get Married

You've done more than dream about the dress and the honeymoon

In fact, you spend a good deal of your time thinking about what makes a relationship work

And from your answers, it looks like you have the skills to say "I Do" and mean it

You've dated enough, learned your fair share, and you're ready to settle down.

Not a big surprise. Hmmm. Maybe I should look for a quiz that will tell me how to get a guy to propose.

What about you? What does the quiz say about you?

Silk, Lace and Tulle...Oh, My!

Hello! It's me. Serena James. Dress designer for The Wedding Belles.

I've been getting ready for the upcoming June weddings, including my good friend Callie's! She's going to be the most gorgeous bride ever. I have designed an exquisite gown for her. Simple, yet elegant. My best creation yet! Jared's jaw will drop when he sees her walking down the aisle. I can't wait for that moment.

I love my job. Where else do you get to turn women into princesses on a daily basis? Well, Disneyland and Disneyworld excluded. But I'll take working with my good friends Belle, Callie, Regina, Natalie, Audra and Julie over the Magic Kingdom any day.

I just hope business picks up around here. Things have been a little slow since the Vandiver cancellation and the publicity that followed. I prefer keeping busy. Otherwise I have too much time to think, and right now, that's just not a good thing.

You see, I honestly thought I would be a bride by now. So did all the other Belles. But they are positive Rupert's going to propose any day now. I must admit it's a little embarrassing to come in to work on Mondays with no engagement ring on my finger. But what's a girl to do?

Anyway, while I'm here, I thought I'd give any brides out there some advice from a dress designer who's been there, seen that:

1. Don't go on a diet if you've already ordered your dress. Please! Don't do it. One bride didn't listen to me. She went one one of these extreme diets and dropped twenty pounds after she'd ordered her gown. Now the dress that looked gorgeous on her before, hangs on her as if she's were a child trying on her mother's gown. And the style doesn't suit her new body. Needless to say, there will be lots of alterations on that one.

2. Allow plenty of time for dress fittings and plan on two of them just in case. You never know how extensive the alterations might be. (See #1)

3. Take at least two pairs of comfortable shoes with different heel heights to the final dress fitting. If the hem isn't exactly right, you won't freak out and you'll be good to go on your wedding day.

Okay, that's all for now. I must get back to work! I'm putting the finishing touches on my new line. A couple of the designs aren't traditional, but sometimes it's good to step out of what's comfortable and shake things up a bit. Doing something different can be intimidating, even a little scary, but you'll never know until you try. After all, what have I got to lose?

What Kind of Bride?

All this talk about weddings, the dresses and flowers, has me on pins and needles waiting for Rupert to propose. I really thought it might happen the other night when he'd taken me to L'Espalier, a French restaurant in Boston's Back Bay. Talk about a romantic place! But it didn't happen. Hmmm...I wonder what he's got up his sleeve.

Anyway, I decided to take this quiz since it's only a matter of time until I'm a bride myself.

You Will Be a Traditional Bride!

You're the type of girl who is feminine, old fashioned, and totally traditional.

You've been dreaming of your wedding day since you were young

And you can't wait to be a princess in your big white gown.

It's likely that you'll have a big family wedding and take your husband's name

While a huge affair will be fun, just don't go all Bridezilla about the color of your napkins!

Oh, this is so me! Though I will not go all Bridezilla. With The Wedding Belles to help me, I won't have to!

It's your turn to play! What kind of bride will you be?

Almost ready!

Hello! I'm Serena James, dress designer for The Wedding Belles. One of our brides is running late for her fitting so I thought I'd take advantage of the time and check in here. It's either that or eat another one of our baker Natalie's delicious wedding cake samples. My waistline can't take much more especially since I plan to be a bride myself. Well, as soon as my devoted boyfriend Rupert proposes. I know it's just a matter of time!

Anyway, we've been so busy planning for all the upcoming spring wedding, but I wanted to thank you for stopping by. The Wedding Belles have lots in store for you over the next six months!

Oh, Julie just let me know that the bride arrived for her fitting. I need to go. Talk to you soon!

Serena
