Wedding Trends...

People are always trying to predict trends, and weddings are no different. I don't know about predicting what tomorrow will bring, but here are some of the things I found that brides and grooms are doing now:

Green Weddings - recycling gold wedding bands, serving locally grown food, wearing bio-friendly all silk or cotton dresses, honeymooning at eco-resorts or having charitable event showers at soup kitchens.

Two wedding dresses - one for the ceremony and one for the reception

Black orchids for table decor - if you have the money, that is...

Tasting stations for the reception - wine and cheese stations, sushi bars, a champagne bar with mixers such as cranberry or pineapple juices included

A sweetheart table - where the bride and groom can sit alone

Having guests make crucial decisions - I've seen this one several places. The bride and groom ask their guests to vote on...anything from what kind of music should be played to whether the balding groom should shave his head or leave some hair up there.

Lots of red (including red wedding dresses)

Or black, with the bride wearing black and her bridesmaids dressed in white

It's all very interesting (and especially fun if you're not the person having to make the decision)!

I guess weddings are going the way of everything traditional......OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW..... Can't say I'm surprised.

I'm having a hard time imagining a mother of the bride being okay with a black wedding dress, especially here in the South.

Here in the South, my friend is getting married in a red wedding dress and her bridesmaids are going to be in sort of a autumn gold...flowers will be in those colors as well. She is getting married in a church called the Stone Chapel and having the reception in a restored cotton mill. Her mother is fine with it
:-). There is the Asian custom of red wedding clothes but she has a traditionally styled dress, not Asian.

Black is a little out there though.

I can see red. It's the black that is mind bending. Your friends wedding sounds beautiful.

I just don't see anyone getting married in black. I guess times are changing. I not sure for the good though.

Hmmm...when I got married 13 years ago, hubby and I had our own table at the reception. That's what all the sites did in New York. Maybe they were ahead of the curve as is par for the course in NY.

And for our Bay Area reception in Atherton, CA, we did stations, each one representing a part of San Francisco, which is where we lived and he proposed. Chinatown, North beach, Fisherman's wharf, etc. It was a big hit!

But as for the other trends, the black I could do without. I've heard of black and white weddings where all the attendants are in black, but not the bride. Sorry, I'd have a problem with that. Must be too old fashioned!

Yes, I don't think I could go for a black wedding dress, either, even though I once stood up to one where we almost talked the bride into black bridesmaid dresses (she went with purple).

And I loved the red dresss/autumn gold color combination. That would look so awesome, I think.

Melissa, sounds as if you had a fantastic reception!
