The Proposal

THE WEDDING PROPOSAL

When my son fell in love he wanted to do it up big, to make a memory for himself and his bride. Well, he did a great job. He decided to propose on his birthday and he wanted it to be a surprise. So he asked me to plan a surprise birthday party for him. Okay, stay with me here. This gets complicated. Before I could even get started, my future daughter-in-law, Alison called to ask my help in planning a surprise birthday party for him. Perfect. Now she was involved full-force, rounding up all their friends that I wouldn’t have known anyway. Cody was going behind her back telling them that he knew about the party but she didn’t know he knew. Are you getting confused yet?

My son played it to the hilt, hiding out before his ‘surprise’ party and walking in with just the right amount of ‘surprise’ on his face. (He had practiced in front of the mirror for days.) The birthday party commenced with gifts and cake because, after all, it really was his birthday.

I was sitting in front of him, handing gifts to him. Again, this was a set up. I knew which ‘gift’ was extra special. My son’s hands were trembling and I could see his tension mounting. Finally, I handed him the last gift and said, “Cody, this is for you, but I think Alison should help open this one.” As if he had no idea what was happening, he handed the box to her. Inside was a nest of lavender roses (her favorite) and, as she dug into the petals, a ring box appeared. With video cameras rolling, Cody took the box, went to his knee and proposed. Alison laughed, screamed, and cried, completely surprised. We were all in tears when she leapt into his arms and yelled, “Yes!”

Don’t you just love a happy ending?
PS I love unique wedding proposals. Do you know of any?

When my then boyfriend, now husband and I had been dating for a year he asked me to marry him. We were in his car and had just come out of Blockbuster after renting a movie and we on our way to pick up something for dinner for our date of dinner and movies. One of the guys at Blockbuster had given me a helium balloon and as one of the reasons I love this man is that he's funny, he took the helium from the balloon and started to talk and make me laugh. We both laughed for a minute and then he turned to me and took my hand and said "Brandy, will you marry me?" It took me a second to realize that he was serious. (Of course I said yes, I love the big goober.) But, I will always remember being asked to wed by my 6ft Goober sounding like Micky Mouse. *G* (He later proposed again, with a ring, on bended knee, but this one I treasure the most.) *G*

That's such a wonderful, romantic story! I love it when the guys get inventive about how to propose.

Great story Brandy! I just love the happy endings. That is the reason I read romance books.
