A Wedding with a Bang!
I've got a July release ( BOARDROOM BRIDE AND GROOM) and it's timed around Fourth of July--not just because sparks fly between the hero and heroine ;-) but because I LOVE that holiday. Although I got married on Memorial Day weekend, it wasn't really a holiday wedding. We did it to accomodate out of town guests, and give them the extra day to travel. I always thought it would be cool to get married around a holiday. Christmas, Valentine's Day. Even the Fourth of July. Think about it--how cool would it be to have fireworks, not just on the day of your wedding, but on EVERY anniversary? And have a three-day weekend every anniversary? ;-) On "The Office" season finale, Jim had a ring out and ready, and paid for fireworks, so he could propose to Pam (but he was pre-empted by Andy, who proposed to a rather reluctant Angela). I was bummed, because what a cool memory that would have been for Pam--if Jim's romantic plan had gone through! He should have tackled Andy ;-). Once you start planning a Fourth of July wedding, the experts have lots of tips. There's a site on " Patriotic Weddings" that offers tips on favors and things like not overdoing it and turning cute into puke. There's a page here that talks about the ups and downs and links to some DIY things like crafts if you are into a really simple Fourth wedding. And finally, Dream Weddings on a Budget has all kinds of neat little ideas like star lanterns and little silver bags to help jazz up a Fourth wedding. Would you get married on the Fourth of July? Or have you gotten married on a holiday? I don't regret at all getting married on Memorial Day weekend, except my youngest's birthday is also that weekend, so after he was born, DH and I stopped having our getaways for our anniversary :-). But that's okay. Having a birthday with our son is a very nice tradeoff :-). And there's always the Fourth...we can have our fireworks just a couple months later!

No, I wouldn't get married on a holiday like the 4th because I think my guests would rather be at the lake or a barbeque or anywhere other than a wedding. It might work if it was a theme wedding at the lake with barbeque and fireworks, but that's just not me.
Have a happy and safe 4th, everyone!

I got married on the Sept. 1st holiday, Labor Day. No regrets about the date except that many uncles/relatives complained that they would probably be harvesting then and why didn't I choose another time. LOL.

Absolutely loved Boardroom Bride and Groom. Zipped through it and then read it again!
We got married in August because it just worked out that way. But as a mid December birthday girl, I would have tried to stay away from holidays anyway.
Peace, Julie

I love Christmastime weddings. So much in fact, I've put two in two different books!

We didn't have a holiday wedding, but if we could I would have had a New Year's Wedding. I'd get Fireworks, it would still be a winter wedding and close to but not sharing with Christmas. *g*

I don't think I would get married on a holiday but I can see how some people might want to.

I really would not get married on a national holiday, just to much noise and action around!

That 4thof July dress is hilarious... I wonder if someone would really wear such a thing!

Our friends tried to get married on July 4th because it was their favorite holiday. They are both very patriotic and they thought it would be a wonderful way to combine many happy things. They were unable to get the church so they had to settle for the 4th.
DH and I knew if we didn't pick a holiday, we wouldn't remember the day. We chose Halloween. No, it wasn't a costume thing. Places are open on Halloween, it's always on the same date (not shifty like Thanksgiving) and it is easy to remember!

We got married close to father's day and it seems celebrating two things so close together doesn't always happen.

We were married April 5th. If the word "crisp" applies to weather, that's what we had. It was a clear, sunny day and unseasonably mild for Indiana. This was good since our simple ceremony was in a small chapel with no electricity (or heat.)
Our anniversary doesn't compete with any other holidays in April and I kind of like that. We've always been a bit nontraditional.

Great stories, all!! We were away this year on the 4th with no Internet connection (argh!) but at the Mall of America, so at least I was shopping, LOL.
