Natalie, the Cake Fairy, stopping by

Hello everyone,

Natalie here, dropping in to get acquainted. I’m the resident cake fairy of the Wedding Belles. You’ll find my story in “Winning the Single Mom’s Heart.”

Yes, I know love is a natural by-product of my job and several of my co-workers are finding Mr. Right, too, but since I am so not interested in EVER marrying again, I’ll concentrate on my twin girls and my blossoming career.

Nothing is more fun to me than talking about designing the perfect cake, be it for a wedding or any other celebrations. But talking about cakes and baking them is all I can do because I’m a diabetic. No cake for me. Ironic, isn’t it? Wedding cakes are my specialty and I love the whole act of creating a show-piece that perfectly reflects the tastes and style of the bride and groom. Who cares if I can’t taste it? I can admire it!

One time I designed a cake for a Goth wedding. Interestingly enough, the cake turned out beautifully, if a little on the untraditional side. Layered and covered in white fondant, vines of black bats twined down one side with a vampire topper. Truly a cake for those with different tastes, but so much fun to create.

I’ve done theme cakes, Disney cakes, you name it. But some of the really fun ones are—well, a little bizarre. Once a bride wanted a glow-in-the-dark cake. No problem. The bridesmaids’ dresses glowed under the black light too. Many times, it’s the grooms who come up with inventive ideas for their cake. The most…er…interesting I ever did was for a groom who loved to fish. Somehow I could not imagine eating that open-mouthed, scaly green, bug-eyed fish. That one really did take the cake!

What’s the most unusual or unique cake you’ve ever seen?

Gotta run. My twins, Rose and Lily just snuck into the kitchen, and that always spells disaster!

Until next time, “Let them eat cake!”

I so admire anyone who can make a cake for special occasions. You must have a lot of imagination and skill to be able to do that.

I enjoyed the pictures of the cakes. I wish I could see the Goth cake! :) The most unusual cakes I have seen were a sea turtle and an anatomically correct girl in a bikini.

You need an insulin pump. It lets me eat more of what I want which makes me a much happier camper. :)

The strangest cake I've ever seen is one that made the news/gossip shows. It was a replica of the bride. Frankly, I found it pretty creepy!

you make lovely cakes; I am so not crafty when it comes to decorating cakes/you have talent.

I love the show on TV where this guy makes cakes and some very different. His workers are his friends. They show all the process from start to finish of many cakes and even delivering the cakes and the recipients reactions.

My daughter found a lady that has been making cakes for 50 years. She was willing to make anything but the new lopsided ones lol. I wish I had a picture of the one my daughter is having. 4 layers - all white - two layers have 8 sides and the other two are round. One layer is going to have the same design that is on her engagement and wedding bands - an intricate design. The others will have various flowers and designs with some sparkles.

I still remember the armadilla(sp) cake from Steel Magnolias. *G* We have an award winning bakery near us and they make the most gorgeous wedding cakes. My favortie had a cameo on each side of the square second tier.

Beautiful cakes. The fish cake I could do without. Looks more like a birthday cake. LOL
