Would You Add a Woof to Your Wedding?

Okay, I have to admit it.

I dress up my dog.

But she’s so stinkin’ cute, she BEGS to be dressed up. Okay, maybe SHE doesn’t literally beg “please dress me in a cute little dress and put a bow in my hair, then parade me around the neighborhood,” but she’s one of those little dogs that looks so adorable in a dress, you simply can’t resist.

That got me to thinking…if I was getting married today, would I include my Sophie girl in the wedding? Maybe put her in a matching dress, and let her trot on down the aisle with a ring bearer pillow or something? You know, I probably would. ;-).

I started Googling “Pets and Weddings” and you’d be surprised how many people have included their furry friends in their weddings. There’s an article on Five Tips for Including Your Pet in Your Wedding, should you be so inclined.

I love dogs. Love cats. I have three dogs of my own, and one cat (my second cat passed away last spring). We also currently have three fiddler crabs, courtesy of son's science teacher ;-). We've had fish and birds in the past. So you can definitely say we are pet people. I draw the line at reptiles and rodents, but furry things are cool, as are aquarium creatures.

Even writer Kurt Vonnegut had his furry friend at his wedding, so it's not all that uncommon. Here's an article about a wedding that included a furry pal named Belle ;-). On another site, I read about Pamela Anderson having a wedding for her dog. Okay, so I wouldn't go so far as to marry OFF my dog, LOL.
No matter how good she looked in the dress.<

Shirley :-)

Those pups are adorable! In an upcoming book of mine for Harlequin Romance, The Snow-Kissed Bride, the heroine's two furry best friends are part of the wedding. I'm not sure I'd have my dog in church, but for outside or other venues--why not?

Awww, the pictures are SO cute! I don't see anything wrong with having pets in a wedding as long as they are well behaved animals. Pets are family, too.

(And although I have no dogs, I do buy hats for our 7 kitties. *G*)

My daughter who is getting married mentions having her dog in the wedding but it's only a puppy and there's no way. But they are adorable.

There's no way I would have a pet in my wedding (assuming I ever had a wedding which won't happen). I am highly allergic to dogs and cats and wouldn't want to sneeze my way down the aisle.

I'm not a dog person so no to the idea of including a dog in the wedding. I'm more of a cat person, but I can't imagine how to work a cat into the plans since there's no way to train it and no way to know how it'd react to the crowd of people.

I am not sure I would trust them in a wedding... especially not next to a towering cake!

Sophie is adorable, but I feel the need to defend the larger dog breeds :)

I literally had a feeling of falling in love (I swear!) when I laid eyes on our beautiful black and white Border Collie mix. And he loved me back, down to the depths of his intelligent, soulful eyes.

But then, I grew up with a German Shepherd, a "real" dog if there ever way one. No dresses and bows for these types. No yippy little barks, either.

I might have gone a bit overboard, since Bentley weighed 35 pounds a week ago, at 5 months of age! If I weren't happily married, I would consider making him a part of my wedding. He's the colors of a classic black tuxedo. I wouldn't insult him with something prissy like carrying the ring pillow.

Since I lost my dad awhile ago, I'd have Bentley walk me down the aisle with regal dignity.

I love the idea of having a furry member of the family in a wedding. After all, they are family too!

Love the photos!

Cathy,

I have two big dogs myself, too! LOL because they'd probably DRAG me down the aisle :-).

Brandy, I'd love to see the hats on the kitties :-)

And Linda -- can't wait to see the puppies in your book!! :-)

I love looking at pictures of dogs that are dressed up. We have a miniature dachshund, Templeton, and all we dress him in is a coat in the winter...and a raincoat when it rains..oh and a halloween costume. It would have been fun to have had a dog at my wedding 18 years ago

If our fur baby had been ours at the time we got married I am so sure I would have thought of a way to include him, even if it only meant that he was present and accounted for. I love dogs and he is our baby.

A friend of mine and her now husband dressed their Havaneses in a tux and flower dog collar...they both handled it well until the end when they decide to play tug of war with the collar.

I had to love the groom...big guy, little dog on a leash. It takes macho! Of course, the guy broke down in tears during his vows too. Actually, that was a wedding where a lot of the guys cried...we women were just overwhelmed by these big softies!

Peace, Julie

Julie,
I love the thought of those big guys getting all sentimental at the wedding (that's so romantic)!

And Shirley, what total cuties the dogs are! Adorable.

This photos are to die for. I just loved the way the pets were dressed. I hadn't thought about putting your pet in the wedding, but I could see it work.
